Create Music Tracks with Adobe’s New AI Technology

In a groundbreaking announcement at the Hot Pod Summit in Brooklyn, Adobe revealed its latest innovation in the realm of artificial intelligence: Project Music GenAI Control. This new platform, developed in collaboration with researchers from the University of California and Carnegie Mellon, promises to revolutionize the way music is created and edited.

Project Music GenAI Control is designed to generate audio from simple text descriptions, such as “happy dance” or “sad jazz,” or even from a reference melody. What sets it apart from other AI-powered music tools is its ability to let users customize the results within the same workflow. This means that users can adjust various aspects of the generated music, including tempo, intensity, repeating patterns, and structure, without needing to switch between different software.

One of the most exciting features of Project Music GenAI Control is its ability to extend a track to an arbitrary length or create an endless loop, making it an ideal tool for music producers, DJs, and anyone looking to create unique and engaging musical experiences.

According to Gautham Mysore, Adobe’s head of audio and video AI research, the platform is still in its research stage and does not yet have a user interface. However, he emphasized that the goal is to put the user in the director’s seat, allowing them to generate music and have various forms of control over it.

As AI-generated music becomes more prevalent, there are growing ethical and legal concerns surrounding the use of such tools. Mysore stated that Adobe is committed to developing its GenAI tools using data that is under license or in the public domain to avoid any potential intellectual property issues. The company is also working on watermarking technology to help identify audio produced by Project Music GenAI Control, although this is still a work in progress.

The potential impact of Project Music GenAI Control on the music industry is immense. It could democratize music creation, allowing anyone with access to the platform to generate and customize music, regardless of their musical background. It could also lead to new forms of collaboration between human musicians and AI, resulting in unique and innovative musical creations.

While there are still many questions surrounding the use of AI in music, Adobe’s Project Music GenAI Control is a significant step forward in the field. With its ability to generate music from simple text descriptions and offer users unprecedented control over the results, it has the potential to change the way we create and experience music.
