Mistral Launches Large LLM and Le Chat

Mistral AI Unveils Mistral Large: A Powerful Language Model to Rival GPT-4

Mistral AI, a Paris-based AI startup, has introduced Mistral Large, a new flagship language model designed to compete with other top-tier models such as GPT-4 and Claude 2. This announcement further solidifies Mistral AI’s position as a strong contender in the AI industry, alongside OpenAI and Anthropic.

Mistral Large: A Multilingual and Versatile AI Model

Mistral Large is a cutting-edge text generation model that boasts top-tier reasoning capabilities. It supports English, French, Spanish, German, and Italian, making it a versatile tool for complex multilingual reasoning tasks, including text understanding, transformation, and code generation.

The model is available through la Plateforme and Azure, Mistral’s first distribution partner. Mistral Large ranks second, after GPT-4, on commonly used benchmarks, making it one of the world’s most advanced language models available through an API.

Partnering with Microsoft to Expand AI Accessibility

In line with its mission to make AI ubiquitous, Mistral AI has partnered with Microsoft to bring its open and commercial models to Azure. This collaboration is a significant step forward in Mistral’s journey, as it allows the company to reach a broader audience and offer its models through Azure AI Studio and Azure Machine Learning.

Mistral Large: A Comprehensive Feature Set

Mistral Large comes with a range of new capabilities and strengths. It has a 32K tokens context window, allowing precise information recall from large documents. Its precise instruction-following enables developers to design their moderation policies, which has been used to set up the system-level moderation of le Chat.

Moreover, Mistral Large is natively capable of function calling. This feature, along with constrained output mode implemented on la Plateforme, enables application development and tech stack modernization at scale.

Introducing Mistral Small: An Optimized Model for Low Latency Workloads

Alongside Mistral Large, the company has also released Mistral Small, an optimized model for latency and cost. Mistral Small outperforms Mixtral 8x7B and has lower latency, making it an ideal intermediary solution between Mistral’s open-weight offering and its flagship model.

Also Introducing Le Chat

Mistral AI has also launched Le Chat, a new conversational assistant that uses Mistral models to provide a fun and educational way to explore the company’s technology. Le Chat can use Mistral Large or Mistral Small under the hood, or a prototype model called Mistral Next, designed to be brief and concise. The assistant is currently available in beta access and offers a tunable system-level moderation mechanism to warn users when they’re pushing the conversation in directions where the assistant may produce sensitive or controversial content. Mistral AI is also launching Le Chat Enterprise, designed to empower team productivity with self-deployment capacities and fine-grained moderation mechanisms. The company is eager to receive feedback from users to continue improving the assistant.

JSON Format and Function Calling for Structured Information Extraction

Mistral AI has introduced JSON format mode, which forces the language model output to be valid JSON. This functionality enables developers to interact with Mistral’s models more naturally and extract information in a structured format that can be easily used in their pipelines.

Function calling, another new feature, lets developers interface Mistral endpoints with their own tools, enabling more complex interactions with internal code, APIs, or databases.

Try Mistral Large and Mistral Small Today

Mistral Large and Mistral Small are now available on La Plateforme and Azure. Mistral Large is also exposed on Mistral’s beta assistant demonstrator, le Chat. The company is eager to receive feedback from users to continue improving its models.

In conclusion, Mistral AI’s latest announcements mark a significant milestone in the company’s journey to make frontier AI ubiquitous. With the release of Mistral Large and Mistral Small, and the partnership with Microsoft, Mistral AI is set to make a significant impact on the AI industry.
