The training program promises to equip these women with the skills needed to navigate and utilize Microsoft’s AI tools effectively, including those developed by OpenAI. In collaboration with government agencies and local educational institutions, Microsoft seeks to extend this training to government employees as well. Philippine Trade Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba lauded the program, highlighting its significance in bolstering cybersecurity measures and fostering trust in technology adoption. This initiative also targets the challenge of disinformation, with Snapp emphasizing the importance of educating participants to discern between altered and genuine content.
Moreover, Microsoft plans to introduce an AI-powered tool designed to enhance reading skills among approximately 27 million Philippine students. This initiative, in partnership with the Philippine Department of Education, responds to a critical need identified in a 2022 World Bank study, which found that a staggering 90% of 10-year-old students in the Philippines struggle with reading simple texts.
